Not many editors have a mantra, but I do:
Economy of language prevents literary inflation.
Words are like currency: if you have too many, they’re not worth as much. I am a skilled editorial surgeon who has edited all of the following and more:
- PhD dissertations/Master’s theses
- Technical documents and instructions
- Marketing copy
- Product catalogs
- Novels, short stories, and poems
Part of what makes me so good at editing is my ability to tighten up documents while preserving their rhetorical impact.
I’m also a skilled, sharp-eyed proofreader. I’ve proofread legal and medical documents, contracts, even textbooks. No project is too big or complex for me.
